The State of Film It seems like the films we watch are having more of an impact on our lives these days. We plan our weekends, especially in the summer, around what we're going to go see. We hit the local electronics retailer on Tuesdays to pick up the latest DVD releases. And we spend a great deal of time online, either during a break at work or when we're bored, surfing entertainment news, blogs and gossip websites.
As if that wasn't enough, we attempt to imitate what we see or envy characters that are larger than life. When everyday life is filled with news of a recession, relationship troubles, a dead end job or just the same old thing, we long to escape our reality and films do this like no other medium.
This section of our website will be a launching pad for a lot of things. For the readers of the many articles that are sure to come I hope you find yourselves interested in a story or idea you never thought possible. I want you to re-experience that feeling you had the first time you saw a film that made you rethink your entire life, or laugh in excitement as you connected so closely with a character on screen.
Above all, this will be a place for appreciation. Yes, we will critique but only to obtain understanding. This will be a platform to dissect an idea or event in cinema culture past, present and future. This is The State of Film.
